Case Studies

The AHA/HRET team has been working with hospitals to develop case studies across the HEN 2.0 topics. We are excited to release 11 best practice case studies that feature work across the country to reduce harm in the areas of: adverse drug events, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line associated bloodstream infections, ventilator-associated events, surgical site infections, clostridium difficile infections, readmissions and operational excellence.

Spread & Sustainability Summit Storyboards

In July 2016, AHA/HRET HEN hosted a state hospital association meeting that celebrated the spread and sustainability of innovative hospital approaches for harm reduction. One hospital representative from each HRET HEN state hospital association produced a storyboard that detailed their approach to improve patient care.

A Program to Prevent CAUTIs in Acute Care

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, along with the HRET, launched a nationwide effort to implement the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP) to reduce catheter-associated urinary tract infections in U.S. hospitals. This effort included an explicit focus on both the technical and socio-adaptive aspects of prevention. The results from the first four of nine cohorts of hospital units are described in the article below published by The New England Journal of Medicine.

Eliminating Harm Checklists l Reduce All-Cause, Preventable Harm

The AHA/HRET HEN 2.0 team has worked with Hospitals in Pursuit of Excellence (HPOE) to produce a new resource as you approach harm reduction in your facility. The new compilation "Eliminating Harm Checklists" gathers evidence-based best practices, improvement strategies and action items along with checklists and resources that may be effective within your organization.
