Going Beyond REaL Data Collection: Collecting Social Determinants of Health

Webinar: February 23, 2016 11:00am - 12:00pm (CST)

To effectively identify racial and ethnic disparities in health and health care, it is essential that key elements such as patient race, ethnicity and language proficiency be collected routinely and then used to measure performance. There is now also great attention being given to the impact of social determinants on health disparities—including environmental factors, food insecurity, transportation and safe housing—among others. HPOE and the Disparities Solutions Center at Massachusetts General Hospital are hosting a webinar "Going Beyond REaL Data Collection: Collecting Social Determinants of Health."

This webinar will discuss strategies and approaches implemented by hospitals and health care systems to collect the social determinants of health, with the understanding that this information will be critical for population health efforts of health plans, hospitals and health centers nationwide.

AHA/HRET HEN 2.0 OB Harm Webinar - No Time to Wait! Early Recognition and Treatment of Severe Preeclampsia

Webinar: February 25, 2016 11:00am - 12:30pm (CST)

Obstetric harm prevention is a multifaceted topic that encompasses many different diagnoses and types of harm. All types of maternal harm prevention share the same overall strategies:
• Readiness for emergencies with protocols and equipment
• Early recognition of emergency conditions
• Quick, effective responses to emergencies
• Use of data and information to learn from past harm and implement safety protocols
The treatment and prevention of harm from severe preeclampsia requires preparedness on the part of the entire hospital, even those that do not routinely offer obstetric services. Severe preeclampsia is an emergency obstetric condition that can occur as late as six weeks post-partum and requires treatment within one hour to prevent harm. Is your hospital prepared to recognize and treat this pregnancy condition responsible for a large number of mortalities and an even larger number of patients with lasting, severe medical complications? Join us February 25 as we explore innovative and practical ways hospitals can be prepared to prevent harm to mothers from severe preeclampsia.
